Useful Things to Know During Travel

1. In Ireland, one should not stop a taxi with a hand or a whistle. This is considered unacceptable and rude. Learn a phone number of a taxi company and call beforehand.

2. Never touch a Thai on the head, because Thais believe that the head is the most sacred part of the body.

3. In Italy Service staff gets paid as high as entry level engineers do. So Tipping is not required. If you tip people you personally know, this may be regarded as offensive. In general, the attitude toward tipping is that you can’t buy a person off, so be mindful if you decide to tip.

4. Germans are sensitive about issues pertaining to the Second World War, so it is best to avoid that topic when first meeting people.

5. Dress Code in Oman: Dress code is of utmost importance. When visiting the country it is important that you dress modestly but comfortably. Women should consider mid-length skirts or dresses (below the knee) with long sleeves, but short sleeves are okay. Tight-fitting clothes should be avoided as they may cause offence. Skimpy shorts should never be worn in public by men or women and beachwear is prohibited anywhere except on the beach or the hotel pool.
